Kal Online user agreement: three characters per account, the transfer ban, the name rules, and the restraint cost
Quick summary

Kal Online runs two separate agreements, and the one that governs your account is the User Agreement For Kalonline, not the KalCash one. The account agreement caps you at three characters, forbids transferring the account, lists the names you cannot pick, and states that a permanently restrained account loses the account, its items and its KalCash with no refund. The KalCash agreement covers the currency side and says the same thing about a restrained account. This post is the account side, because the KalCash side is already covered by the KalCash and Item Shop topic on this board.

Characters and accounts

Article 8 sets the shape of an account. A user ID cannot be changed while the account is in use. Characters are created inside the account, and the maximum number of characters in one account is limited to three. Characters within the same account cannot be connected to the server at the same time. The user is solely responsible for managing the user ID, password and character ID, and the company states it is not responsible for losses caused by the user's carelessness or by illegal use from a third party.

Article 7 covers the account itself. Transfer of a user account, meaning the rights or position gained through the agreement, is prohibited. The company can delete a user's KalCash and restrain the account, and it states it is not responsible for losses caused by the user's carelessness in account management or by illegal use from a third party.

Approval and changes

Article 6 says the company in principle approves an application when the applicant provides correct and complete information, processes applications on a first-come first-served basis, shows approval on screen immediately or sends email within 24 hours, and can refuse service for false information, for an application regarded as having illegal or criminal purposes, or for other reasons the company decides on. Even after approval the company can cancel the agreement if the application turns out to fall into one of those cases, and it can delay approval for inadequate service resources, service errors, or a decision that refusal is necessary.

Article 2 says the agreement takes effect by notifying users through the game website, and that the company can change all or part of the terms when it has reasonable grounds and the changes are in accordance with relevant law. Important modifications directly related to user rights or responsibilities are notified as prescribed and take effect five days after notification.

Names and prohibited acts

Article 12 clause 2 lists the IDs and names a user may not choose: names that can be confused with the operators, names containing obscenities, names that are antisocial or against the National Security Law, names that infringe trademarks or copyright law, and names determined to be vulgar or profane.

Article 12 clause 3 then lists sixteen activities the user shall not do. The ones that come up in account and trading disputes are the last two: transferring a user account, or the rights or position gained through the agreement, to a third person, and selling characters or items for cash without the consent of the company. The same list bans illegal modification of client programs, server hacking, website modification, the use of program bugs, advertising other companies' products in game, and exchanging personal information that invades another player's privacy.

Article 9 states that the actual sale or purchase of characters and items is allowed only with the consent of the company.

What a restraint costs

Article 18 is the clause people find out about late. For a permanently restrained account by agreement, the account, its items and its KalCash are non-refundable. The KalCash agreement says the same in its own terms, in Article 11 clause 3, which states that except in the case of Article 12 clause 1, KalCash is non-refundable under all circumstances, and specifically that in respect of a permanently restrained account by agreement, the KalCash agreement or the C/S policy, any KalCash left over is non-refundable.

The KalCash agreement also carries two time limits worth knowing. Article 10 says KalCash remaining in an account on a website not logged into for over six months will be deleted. Article 6 says the balance of KalCash in an account is not interest bearing, and that Kal Point offered by the provider expires in 180 days.

Disputes and liability

Article 19 lists the cases where the company is not held responsible. It includes the user's own problems that disrupt the services, the reliability and accuracy of information provided by members, any loss of game money, level and EXP, and any loss of profit. Clause 10 states there is no obligation to intervene in a dispute between users and no responsibility for any loss about that. Article 20 says legal disputes are submitted to a civil court and Korean law is applied.
