Kal Online mining and processing: the pickaxes, the ores, the refining odds, and the daily quest
Quick summary
  • Mining and processing are the two halves of Kal Online's crafting economy. You dig ore with a pickax, then hand that ore to Artisan Doggebi to refine it into the materials weapons and armour are made from.
  • A failed refine gives you gravel instead of a material.
  • You cannot swap pickaxes once a mining session has started, and the pickax is consumed when you start.
  • A pickax lasts 30 minutes and one mineral comes out every 5 minutes.
  • The daily mining quest from Artisan Doggebi resets at 9 a.m. and pays honor points.
Getting into the mine

Talk to the Mine Manager NPC to start. He moves you into the mine and sells pickaxes for Zamogeon. The Mine Keeper is the one who starts and finishes your mining session and moves you back to the village entrance. Select Mining minerals, then pick a pickax from the pop-up window. You cannot change the pickax until you finish mining, and the pickax disappears when you start. Minerals are saved to your inventory automatically, and you can also pick ore up from hunting monsters.

The pickaxes
  • Pickax. Bought with Zamogeon. The guide says it sometimes brings gravel.
  • Blue dragon pickax. More likely to dig a higher grade mineral or material than the common pickax.
  • White tiger pickax. Digs three times as many minerals as the others.
  • Red bird pickax. Same as the blue dragon pickax, plus a 50 percent chance of one extra mineral every 10 minutes. Cash item.
  • Mysterious pickax. Cash item. The guide describes it as the most efficient, more likely to dig primary minerals and premier materials.
The ore list
  • Copper ore. Bronze, yellow brass, red copper and nickel are produced by processing it.
  • Quartz ore. Silica stone, jasper, chalcedony and crystal come from processing it.
  • Iron ore. Wrought iron, cast iron, black iron and steel are produced by processing it.
  • Corundum ore. Topaz, beryl, sapphire and ruby come from processing it.
  • Gold and silver ore. Silver, platinum and gold are produced by processing it.
  • Blood ore. Blood stone comes from processing it.
  • Diamond ore. Diamond stone comes from processing it.
  • Geum-Oh ore. Geum-Oh stone comes from processing it.
Processing at Artisan Doggebi

Artisan Doggebi stands next to the Mine Keeper NPC. She refines minerals into materials, crafts weapons and armour from those materials, and hands out the daily mining quest. In her window you choose how many minerals to process at once. The guide states that the higher the number you select, the higher the chance of a high-grade material appearing. A failed refine returns gravel. The window will not start if you do not have enough minerals or demon dissolver.

How the ore amount changes the result

The official processing guide lists each ore against the amount you hand over, with gravel in the last column when a failure is possible.
  • Copper ore, 50: bronze, yellow brass, red copper, gravel.
  • Copper ore, 100: bronze, yellow brass, red copper, gravel.
  • Copper ore, 150: bronze, yellow brass, red copper, nickel, gravel.
  • Copper ore, 200: bronze, yellow brass, red copper, nickel.
  • Quartz ore, 50: silica stone, jasper, crystal, gravel.
  • Quartz ore, 100: silica stone, jasper, chalcedony, gravel.
  • Quartz ore, 150: silica stone, jasper, chalcedony, crystal, gravel.
  • Quartz ore, 200: silica stone, jasper, chalcedony, crystal.
  • Iron ore, 75: wrought iron, cast iron, gravel.
  • Iron ore, 150: wrought iron, cast iron, black iron, gravel.
  • Iron ore, 225: wrought iron, cast iron, black iron, steel, gravel.
  • Iron ore, 300: wrought iron, cast iron, black iron, steel.
  • Corundum ore, 75: topaz, beryl, gravel.
  • Corundum ore, 150: topaz, beryl, sapphire, gravel.
  • Corundum ore, 225: topaz, beryl, sapphire, ruby, gravel.
  • Corundum ore, 300: topaz, beryl, sapphire, ruby.
  • Gold and silver ore, 100: silver, platinum, gravel.
  • Gold and silver ore, 225: silver, platinum, gold, gravel.
  • Gold and silver ore, 300: silver, platinum, gold, gravel.
  • Blood ore, 350: blood stone, gravel.
  • Diamond ore, 400: diamond stone, gravel.
  • Geum-Oh ore, 400: Geum-Oh stone, gravel.
Copper, quartz, iron and corundum ore each get four rows, and each step up adds one higher-grade material and drops gravel at the top amount. Gold and silver ore is the exception: gravel is still listed at all three of its amounts, so the 300-ore batch does not remove the failure chance there. Blood, diamond and Geum-Oh ore have a single row each, and gravel is still listed.

The mining quest
  • Artisan Doggebi offers the mining quest once a day.
  • The quest is initialised at 9 a.m. daily.
  • Completing it grants honor points.
FAQ
  • Do I need a new pickax every session? Yes. The pickax is consumed when you start mining.
  • Can I switch to a better pickax mid-session? No. Finish mining first.
  • Where does the ore come from besides the mine? The guide lists hunting as another source, and the Mine Manager sells the pickaxes you need.
  • Does processing more ore at once help? The guide says a higher number of minerals raises the chance of a high-grade material appearing.
  • What do I do with the materials? Artisan Doggebi uses them to craft weapons and armour.
  • How long does a pickax last? The guide says 30 minutes, with one mineral every 5 minutes.
