Kal Online pets: field pets vs PvP pets, crossbreeding, and rare pets

Pets in Kal Online are not companions that fight beside you. They are equippable buff items that fire a bonus on a timer while you wear them, and they are the cheapest permanent stat upgrade most players never bother with. This post covers where they come from, how the field and PvP split works, and what the crossbreed system actually does to their numbers.

The two families, and why you need both

Every pet is either a Field Pet or a PvP Pet. Field Pets work in PvE monster hunting, and PvP Pets are for player combat: 1 on 1 fights, the Duel Tournament, scenario battlefields and Castle Siege. The ability types are the same in both families, but the PvP versions carry higher values.[1][2]

You cannot use a field pet and a PvP pet at the same time, and only one pet can be equipped at once, so a player who does both kinds of content ends up keeping two and swapping between them. Swapping is not free: after you re-equip a pet, its buff does not show for 5 minutes.[1][2]

Buying, equipping and the timer
  • Zamogeon pets come from the Manager of mystical creatures in the Pub of the Giant Bird, bought with in-game currency.
  • Kal Cash pets come from the ITEMSHOP on the KalOnline homepage.
  • Purchased pets are bound, so they cannot be traded or sent as gifts.
  • A pet sits in your inventory like a normal item and starts working when you drag it onto the equipment inventory.
  • The timer starts when you equip, not when you buy. Zamogeon and Kal Cash pets run for 7 days, and the remaining time is shown on the item tooltip.
  • When the timer ends the pet disappears, and its buff drops the moment the timer runs out or you put it back in the inventory.
  • You cannot re-equip a pet with 10 seconds or less left on its timer.
Buffs fire automatically. You do not choose which one activates, and the cycle runs roughly every 6 to 10 seconds depending on the buff grade, with higher grades firing more often.[1]

The four base pets and what they buff

Four pets cover the four main stats: Blue Dragon for attack power, White Tiger for explosive blow rate, Black Tortoise for defense and Red Bird for evasion. Zamogeon pets get one additional ability, Kal Cash pets get two.[2]
  • Blue Dragon, Zamogeon: field main attack power +4% and defense +3%; PvP main attack power +6% and defense +4%.
  • Blue Dragon, Kal Cash: field main attack power +8%, defense +3%, explosive blow rate +2%; PvP main attack power +12%, defense +4%, explosive blow rate +3%.
  • White Tiger, Zamogeon: field main explosive blow rate +2% and defense +3%; PvP main explosive blow rate +4% and defense +4%.
  • White Tiger, Kal Cash: field main explosive blow rate +4%, attack power +2%, defense +3%; PvP main explosive blow rate +5%, attack power +3%, defense +4%.
  • Black Tortoise, Zamogeon: field main defense +5% and attack power +2%; PvP main defense +6% and attack power +3%.
  • Black Tortoise, Kal Cash: field main defense +10%, attack power +2%, evasion +2%; PvP main defense +12%, attack power +3%, evasion +3%.
  • Red Bird, Zamogeon: field main evasion +2% and attack power +2%; PvP main evasion +4% and attack power +3%.
  • Red Bird, Kal Cash: field main evasion +3%, defense +3%, attack power +2%; PvP main evasion +4%, defense +4%, attack power +3%.
How to crossbreed

Crossbreeding is the pet upgrade path. You talk to the same NPC, the Manager of mystical creatures in the Pub of the Giant Bird, and choose the Crossbreed creatures menu. The interface takes a main pet and a sub pet, shows the hybrid you are most likely to get in the result slot, and lets you browse the other possible results.[2]

The rules matter more than the interface:
  • You can only crossbreed pets of the same kind.
  • Kal Cash pets and Zamogeon pets cannot be crossbred with each other. Kal Cash and Kal Point pets can be.
  • Field pets and PvP pets cannot be crossbred.
  • Two pets with the same name cannot be crossbred, so Blue Dragon plus Blue Dragon is impossible.
  • A pet that has already been used more than once cannot be crossbred.
  • When the hybrid lands in your inventory, the main and sub pets are deleted.
  • The buff does not show for 5 minutes after you re-equip the result.
The sub pet decides the fixed bonus on the hybrid, and that part is predictable. Blue Dragon as the sub pet fixes attack power, White Tiger fixes explosive blow rate, Black Tortoise fixes defense and Red Bird fixes evasion. Fixed bonuses are not affected by Blessing of Asadal.[2]

Crossbreeding two Kal Cash pets also rolls an extra random stat, and the main pet you chose decides which stat that is and how wide the range is:
  • Blue Dragon as main pet, result in the [Hybrid] dragons family: attack power, from -1% to +2%.
  • White Tiger as main pet, result in the [Hybrid] tigers family: explosive blow rate, from -1% to +2%.
  • Black Tortoise as main pet, result in the [Hybrid] tortoises family: defense, from -1% to +2%.
  • Red Bird as main pet, result in the [Hybrid] birds family: evasion, from -1% to +1%.
The Zamogeon hybrids are fixed combinations with set numbers, so there is no gamble in them beyond the cost of the two pets. A few examples, with field values first and PvP second:
  • White Dragon, from Blue Dragon plus White Tiger: main attack power +6% / +9%, additional defense +5% / +6%, fixed explosive blow rate +1%.
  • Black Dragon, from Blue Dragon plus Black Tortoise: main attack power +6% / +9%, additional defense +5% / +6%, fixed defense +2%.
  • Red Dragon, from Blue Dragon plus Red Bird: main attack power +6% / +9%, additional defense +5% / +6%, fixed evasion +1%.
  • Blue Tiger, from White Tiger plus Blue Dragon: main explosive blow rate +3% / +6%, additional defense +5% / +6%, fixed attack power +1% / +2%.
  • Blue Tortoise, from Black Tortoise plus Blue Dragon: main defense +8% / +9%, additional attack power +3% / +5%, fixed attack power +1% / +2%.
  • Blue Bird, from Red Bird plus Blue Dragon: main evasion +3% / +6%, additional attack power +3% / +5%, fixed attack power +1% / +2%.
Rare pets

Crossbreeding two Kal Cash pets can also produce a rare pet at a low probability. Rare pets have higher ability stats than anything else in the system, and their buffs fire at 100% probability with a longer cool time and a longer running time.[2]
  • [Rare] Blue Dragon: field main attack power +20%, explosive blow rate +3%, defense +5%, evasion +3%; PvP main attack power +29%, explosive blow rate +6%, defense +6%, evasion +5%.
  • [Rare] White Tiger: field main explosive blow rate +10%, attack power +3%, defense +5%, evasion +3%; PvP main explosive blow rate +12%, attack power +5%, defense +6%, evasion +5%.
  • [Rare] Black Tortoise: field main defense +24%, attack power +3%, explosive blow rate +3%, evasion +3%; PvP main defense +29%, attack power +5%, explosive blow rate +6%, evasion +5%.
  • [Rare] Red Bird: field main evasion +8%, attack power +3%, defense +5%, explosive blow rate +3%; PvP main evasion +10%, attack power +5%, defense +6%, explosive blow rate +6%.
Three pets sit outside the crossbreed system entirely. The Dark Knight Pet, the Angel of Death and the Grim Reaper Pet cannot be bred.[1]

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a field pet and a PvP pet at the same time?
No. Only one pet can be equipped, and the two families cannot be used together.[1]

How long do pets last?
Zamogeon and Kal Cash pets have a 7 day limit, counted from the moment you equip them rather than the moment you buy them, and the remaining time is visible on the tooltip.[1]

Why did my pet buff stop after I swapped pets?
Re-equipping hides the buff for 5 minutes. It is a fixed delay, not a bug, and it applies after crossbreeding too.[1][2]

Can I crossbreed two of the same pet?
No. Same name combinations are blocked, so two Blue Dragons cannot be bred together.[2]

Is a rare pet guaranteed if I keep crossbreeding?
No. Rare pets come out at a low probability, and only from Kal Cash pet crossbreeds.[2]

What happens to the pets I use as ingredients?
The main pet and the sub pet are deleted when the hybrid is placed in your inventory, so treat both as spent.[2]
