Fishing in Kal Online is a relaxed life skill that produces healing items, sellable goods, and ingredients for the cooking system. This guide covers the basics of catching fish, the weekly Dream Fish competition, and what you can do with your haul.
Getting started
Buy a fishing needle or bait from any merchant NPC in the cities. You can fish at designated fishing spots, usually ponds near the main villages. Talk to the Fishing Grounds Keeper NPC at a fishing island to set up your fish trap. The trap fills over time, and when the progress bar completes you receive a fish.
A needle is consumed each time you catch a fish. Bait works the same way but gives access to rarer fish types like silver eel, silver herring, and silver carp.
Fish types and prices
Regular fish are cheap healing items. Here are the ones you will see most often:
- Goby: 14 geons, heals 300 HP
- Mackerel: 40 geons, heals 300 HP
- Salmon: 100 geons, heals 300 HP
- Sea-bream: 1,000 geons, heals 300 HP
- Eel: 1,000 geons, heals 300 HP
- Shad: 1,500 geons, heals 600 HP
- Carp: 2,000 geons, heals 700 HP
The Dream Fish event
Every week the Dream Fish competition runs from Friday 22:00 to Wednesday 22:00. Registration costs 10,000 geons and opens every Thursday from 22:00 to Friday 22:00. When you register, you gain access to three additional fish types: Herring, Hairy Fish, and Anchovy. These cannot be sold or dropped. They are quest items for merchants that request dream fish.
The top five anglers by total fish weight win a share of the registration pool. First place takes 50%, second takes 25%, third takes 10%, and fourth and fifth split the remaining 10%. Prizes are delivered to your storage automatically.
Cooking with fish
The pub (tavern) NPC in cities lets you cook fish into stronger consumables. Recipes include:
- Baked mackerel in soy sauce: heals 100 HP
- Smoked salmon: heals 400 HP
- Eel soup: +10% magic damage for 1 hour
- Cooked carp: +5% attack speed, +7% physical damage, +10% magic damage for 1 hour
Tips
- Fish during the Dream Fish event if you want the competition prizes, but remember registration closes Friday at 22:00 sharp.
- If you are just healing, stick with needles and gobies. The cost per HP is hard to beat.
- Check the Fishing Grounds Keeper for the event schedule, since it resets every Wednesday.
