Kal Online has two separate player-versus-player systems. Duels are consensual and cost nothing. The assassin system is how open-world PvP works, and it carries real penalties. Knowing the difference keeps you from losing experience and items you did not mean to risk.
Duels: Consensual PvP With No Penalties
A duel begins under the agreement of both parties, and there are no penalties on either the winner or the loser.
- Type /duel PLAYER NAME in the chat window to challenge another player.
- The duel can start from anywhere once the player who received the request accepts it.
- The duel ends in a draw if there is no conclusion in 10 minutes.
- It ends when one player's HP drops to 0 and they faint. The loser can be revived using the revive button.
- There is no experience loss even if you lose the duel.
- Either player can end the duel instantly by typing /surrender.
- Monsters can still attack you while a duel is in progress, so pick a safe spot.
The assassin system exists to regulate reckless killing in Kal Online. A player who wants to kill others must wear a mask item so they are recognized by everyone.
- Masks can be bought from the mask merchant in the Temporary Fort of Geum-Ohee Castle and the High Land of Sky.
- When the mask is worn, the player's name changes to "assassin" in red, and a mask appears on the character's face.
- Once you become an assassin, the mode cannot be disabled for 2 hours.
- If an assassin is close to you, a warning message appears on your screen.
- In assassin mode you can attack all other players except your own party members and guild members.
- Assassins can also attack other assassins.
- Assassins can only attack others in unsafe areas.
- An assassin can be attacked by anyone outside a safe area.
- If you die while in assassin mode, you lose experience, but your death count does not increase.
- If you are killed by another player or assassin while in assassin mode, there is a 50% chance you drop one equipped item or one item from your inventory.
- The remaining assassin time disappears if you are killed or you suicide.
- You cannot trade with other players, use shops, or install a fish trap while in assassin mode.
- When an assassin is killed by another player, it is recorded on the town board with both names.
When a player in normal condition is killed by an assassin, they lose 1/10 of their experience, but their death count does not increase. The assassin indicator is always on, so you always know when you are looking at someone who can legally attack you.
